A key element for any aerial inspection is an operators choice of sensor. This course provides an introduction to the range of sensors available to commercial drone pilots (including thermal imaging, multispectral and visual cameras), and the fundamentals of integrating these with your aerial platforms.

This course provide delegates with a range of knowledge on the latest sensors available for aerial platforms, along with the skills to successfully select, configure and integrate these sensors into appropriate platforms. It’s designed for pilots looking to bridge the gap into the industrial surveying market and gain a general understanding of the tools available.

Course Details

Inspections for Drone Operators is a 3-day course for pilots interested in conducting industrial inspections with their drone.

Drones are an invaluable tool for detection, monitoring and inspection. When combined with a suitable sensors, the applications for aerial surveying are limitless.

As the aerial inspection market expands, it’s important that new operators have the skills to conduct commercial surveys safely and effectively. This course provides delegates with the knowledge to select, integrate and operate a range of sensors on drone platforms.

Using both theoretical and practical exercises, the course delivers a well-balance training experience that’s relevant to current commercial needs.

Successful completion of the course will provide delegates with the fundamental skills and knowledge to integrate and operate sensors with aerial platforms. The course will also help delegates to decide if they’d like to further specialise in a specific field, and provide guidance for additional training options.

Those attending the course are not required to own a drone or any remote sensors. All equipment for training will be provided for the duration of the course.

Any practical exercises (weather permitting) involving drone flying will be operated by our training instructors. As such, pilots are not required to hold Permissions for Commercial Operations (PfCO) for this course.

This course has no specific entry requirements. It’s recommended that delegates have, or are working towards, gaining their Permissions for Commercial Operations (PfCO) from the CAA.

The Inspections for Drone Operators course provides an introduction to the following sensors.

Thermal Imaging Sensors

Understand how to use infrared cameras to inspect surface temperatures, monitor heat transfer and find faults. We also provide delegates with the opportunity to try out the latest thermal imaging equipment

Multispectral Sensors

Multispectral cameras are a highly valuable tool often utilised for precision agriculture. Learn how multispectral cameras can be used to analyse crops, assess soil and identify weeds.

Visual Sensors

Drones enable the visual inspection of areas otherwise difficult to access. Learn how to quickly deploy an aerial system to monitoring construction, wind turbines and roofs.

LiDAR Sensors

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors are used to create accurate, triangulated point-clouds for modelling and measuring. The primary application for LiDAR is Building Information Management (BIM), enabling operators to conduct complex volumetric calculations on captured data.
